The first Vietnamese antivirus software to achieve international certification
01:01:25, 17/08/2010

Virus Bulletin, World top organization in testing antivirus software, has recently awarded Bkav with VB100 certification. With this award, Bkav has officially joined the list of world class antivirus softwares.

For many years, Virus Bulletin has conducted independent tests of antivirus softwares worldwide. Their tests are widely acknowledged in software industry. These tests focus on the ability to detect a virus collection (Wildlist set), on scan speed as well as the ability to avoid false positives.

VB100 is the most prestigious certification in antivirus software testing. To have VB100 award, an antivirus software must detect 100% of the virus in the Wildlist set. These viruses are collected worldwide by experts and are all dangerous and widely spread viruses (virus in the Wild). The first VB100 certificate was introduced in 1998.

"We've been impressed with the simplicity and solidity of the Bkis product range from the start - they are fast to set up and easy to use, and have remained very stable throughout our tests, something which many products have had problems with lately. We're pleased to welcome Bkis as new world class holders of VB100 certification," said John Hawes, Virus Bulletin's Test team Director.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Director of Bkis R&D, said: "Early 2010, Bkav has sent the old version of Bkav Home 2009 for testing two times, but it failed to achieve VB100. After the launch of Bkav 2010 using cloud computing technology, with the comprehensive technology advance progress and a much larger virus database which amounts to 6.4 million virus definitions, Bkav is able to pass the Virus Bulletin's test to obtain VB100 certificate."

There are world top 54 antivirus softwares participating in VB test this time, and over one third of the products failed the test. Such big players as BitDefender or GData also failed because they detected 15 clean files as virus. McAfee also missed 5 virus samples. "In the past year, Virus Bulletin has delivered more challenging tests. Bkav decided to participate in this test to prepare for the product's global launch. Products awarded with VB100 is likely to gain favor in global market," Nguyen Tu Quang, Bkav CEO, said.
